At the end of August, the refreshed I. Gruppe returned to the squadron with 39 Heinkel He 111 H-16s. She joined the fighting against the Red Army's Belgorod-Kharkov Operation.

When the withdrawal to the Dnieper began on August 26th, Kampfgeschwader 55 also had to withdraw beyond the river. From November 1, it intervened in the Soviet landing operation on the Kerch Peninsula on behalf of the 17th Army.

In December the squadron took up new places in the General Government when the Staff, the II and III. Group arrived in Deblin-Irena (♁Lage) and the first group in Deblin-Ulez (♁Lage).

In 1943, Kampfgeschwader 55 had material losses of 269 aircraft, 146 of which were due to direct enemy action.
