Wounded Badge in Black citation for his first wounding on 5 June 1943 while serving with Stab I./Grenadier Regiment 848 of the 282. Infanterie Division. At that time the Division was fighting in the Charkov area.

After he recovered from his wounding he became part in 1944? of Funk Kompanie 41 wich was part of Nachrichten Abteilung 41 of the 41. Infanterie Division. The Division fought in Croatia against Partizans. With this unit he got wounded for the 3rd time and was awarded the Wounded Badge in Silver on 23 February 1945.
