Soldbuch 31. ID Poland 1939 – Holland – Belgium – France 1940 IJmuiden 1944

First issue Soldbuch to Obergefreiter Hartmann.

Hartmann served in 1939 with the 4th Kompanie of Infanterie Regiment 82 of the 31. Infanterie Division.

With this Division he took part in the invasion of Poland in September 1939 and played a key-role in the advance on Warsaw.

For bravery shown on the battlefield he was awarded the Iron Cross 2. Class or EK 2 on 20-10-1939.

In 1940 the Division took part in Operation Fall Gelb and advanced through the southern part of the Netherlands towards Belgium (Brussel) and France.

On 1 Juli 1940 he was awarded the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber for taking part in (at least) 3 different assault days.

In 1941 the Division took part in Operation Barbarossa as part of Heeresgruppe Mitte and fought at Bialystok, Minsk, Smolensk, Wiasma and headed towards Moscow.

On 1-8-1942 he was awarded the Ostmedaille.

That same year he entered a Marinehospital in Heiloo, Netherlands for stomach problems with code -195D-

In 1943 he was brought to Ortslazarett Hoorn and later on to Kriegslazarett 6/686 based in Amersfoort.

Somewere in 1943 he became part of the Stabskompanie of Grenadier Regiment 860 of the 347. Infanterie Division wich was stationed in the Netherlands around IJmuiden on the Dutch coast.
