Holden was part of 1./Panzerjager Abteilung 5 of the 5. Jager Division.

The 1. Kompanie of the Abteilung was equipped with Sturmgeschutze.

On 18 April 1944 he was awarded the EK 2 wich was signed by Oberst and Divisional commander Helmut Thumm. (Knightscross with Oakleaves)

Thumm was commanding officer of the LXIV Army Corps from November 1944 onwards and fighting on the Westfront at the Colmar Pocket.
