Schydlo was a member of 1./Grenadier Regiment 1055 of the 89. Infanterie Division.

The Division was destroyed in Normandy and rebuilt in Germany in only a few weeks before being send to the Hurtgenwald area.

Here it fought in the area of Simmerath, Rollerboich against the 9. U.S. Infantry Division.
