The Soldbuch opens at 30-8-1939 and was handed-out by III./Infanterie Regiment 454 of the 254. Infanterie Division.

On 10 May 1940 the Division took part in operation “Fall Gelb” and crossed in the early morning the Dutch - German border between Nijmegen and Cuijk. The Division had the task together with the 256. Infanterie Division to break through the Dutch defense line the Peel-Raam stellung at the small vicinity of Mill.

Here it came to heavy fightings for 1,5 day against the Dutch defenders. After their defeat the 254. ID headed towards ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the Western part of Brabant and towards Belgium.

In 1941 he became part of Infanterie Regiment 586 of the 320. Infanterie Division. The Division was stationed at the French coast untill January 1943 when it was sent to the southern front in Russia.

This Division took part in operation “Wacht am Rhein” wich became later known as the Ardennes battles where it fought at St. Vith and Trois Points.
On 31-1-1945 he was awarded the EK 1 for bravery shown during the Ardennes battles!

It comes with an separate list with a few close combat days for 1944.
The list seems not complete as 15 days are required to be awarded the Nahkampfspange in Bronze.
