Soldbuch first issue to Obergefreiter Barbian.
The Soldbuch opens at 7-10-1940 with Luftwaffe Bau Battalion 10/XIII.
From 1940 until 1944 he served with several Bau-Battalione on the Eastfront.

He joined the newly raised Luftwaffe Festungs Battalion XVII on 5-9-1944. This unit was one of the first units to fight against the 82nd US Airborne Division during the early stages of Operation Market Garden on the Dutch - German border east of Nijmegen.
On 17 September it arrived at Kraneburg. The next day the Battalion became under command of Kampfgruppe Major Ahlemeyer. (Landesschutzen Battlion 1/6).
On 18 September the first Kompanie had attacked towards the Wylerberg north of Groesbeek wich resulted in 6 men dead and 49 missing. On 19 September the Battalion was held in reserve on the eastern edge of Kranenburg. On 20 September it fought towards Groesbeek but the attacked had been stopped.
On 1-10-1944 the Battalion was absorbed into the 84. Infanterie Division wich was sent to the Kleve - Groesbeek area.
For the remainder of the war it fought on the Westfront and was almost destroyed near Wesel in 1945.
