Wehrpass first issue to Obergefreiter Mayer.

The Wehrpass opens in 1939 when he was called-up for military duty and became part of 1./Infanterie Regiment 65 based in Delmenhorst.

In December 1939 he became part of an fieldunit;

- 11./Infanterie Regiment 26, 20. Infanterie Division.

With this Division he took part in operation “Fall Gelb” on 10 May 1940 and crossed the Dutch - German border between Steyl and Swalmen in the southern part of the Netherlands.
The Division followed it’s path towards Weert and then headed towards Belgium: Moll, Koebergen, ‘t Sas, Oudenaarde, Desselghem, Thielt, Dixmuiden and then towards France.

On 12-12-1940 he was awarded the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen for fightings in Belgium and the Netherlands!

In December 1940 he became part of 7./Infanterie Regiment 254 of the 110. Infanterie Division.

In 1941 with this division he took part in operation “Barbarossa” and fought on the Eastfront as part of Heeresgruppe Mitte, 9. Army.

For bravery shown on the battlefield he was awarded the EK 2 on 28-8-1941. Only a few weeks later he was KIA on 4-10-1941.
