Wehrpass first issue to Obergefreiter Popp.
The Wehrpass runs from 1939 untill 1945.
In 1939 he joined the army and became part of 3./ Bau Battalion 229.
He served within several construction training and field units which whom he served on the Easternfront.
On 9-8-1942 he was awarded the Ostmedaille.
untill 30-1-1943 when he became part of 2./Schwere Flak Abteilung 163 wich was active in North en central Italy.
From 14-2-1944 onwards he was active on the Nettuno bridgehead where he got lightly wounded on 17-4-1944;
“Bombensplitter schutter” near “Landekopf Nettuno”.
On 23-6-1944 he was awarded the EK 2 for bravery shown on the battlefield.
For this wounding he was awarded the Wounded badge in Black on 30-6-1944.
On 8 August 1944 he took part in “Bekampfung im Appenin Unternehmen Wallenstein” wich was an German anti Partisan operation.
In early September he was transferred to the Westfront and became part of II./Marsch Battalion Flieger Regiment 53 wich was active in Belgium and Holland. Elements of the Regiment fought at the Ten Aard Bridgehead.
On 17 September 1944 elements of the Regiment fought against troops of the 101th Airborne Division close to the dropzones near Son and later on with Kampfgruppe Chill.
On 6-11-1944 he became part of 4./Feld ersatz Battalion 159 of the 59. Infanterie Division.
On 3-12-1944 he became part of 6./Grenadier Regiment 1034 of the 59. Infanterie Division.
On 18-1-1945 he was KIA near Julich Germany through a Artillerie direct hit. (Info from ancestry)
